Short answer

Indoor games, newest tech: LeBron 24 (React drop in, Air Zoom front and heel). Indoor games, lower price: LeBron 22 ($180 at release, Zoom Turbo plus heel Zoom). School teams and rec leagues: LeBron Witness 9 (about $105). Outdoor courts: a Witness you do not mind wearing out. Ankle worries: a high top is not clearly safer; a 1993 randomized trial and a 2020 meta-analysis found no significant difference.

High top or low top?

Every flagship since the LeBron 20 is a low top, and many players ask if that is riskier for ankles. The research does not show high tops protecting better:

Both are small, and the meta-analysis measured stability rather than sprains, so this is not the final word. If you have had sprains, ask a physio about bracing or taping. Basketball ankle braces are an option many players use.

Questions people ask

What is the best LeBron shoe for playing basketball?

For indoor games, the current flagship (LeBron 24) has the newest cushioning. For most players on a budget, the LeBron 22 or a Witness gives most of the benefit for less. The best one is the one that fits your foot well.

Are LeBrons good for guards?

Recent LeBrons are low tops built lighter than older models, which suits quick players. Guards who want a lower, faster feel often like the low top era, from the LeBron 20 on.

Do high top basketball shoes prevent ankle sprains?

The evidence does not show it. A 1993 randomized study of 622 college intramural players found no significant difference in ankle injuries between high tops and low tops, and a 2020 meta-analysis of six studies found no significant collar effect on ankle stability measures.

Are LeBrons good for big men?

LeBron has always been a big, powerful player, and the line is built around impact cushioning. Heavier players who land hard tend to prefer the flagship over the Witness for its fuller cushioning.
